Oct 7, 2011 – Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata has been fined $15,000 by the NFL for his hit on New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez last weekend.

Ngata was fined for lowering his head and striking Sanchez on a blindside hit during the second quarter. Sanchez fumbled the ball and the Ravens ran the ball in for a touchdown. No flag as called while the referees reviewed the play to see if the fumble caused by the hit was legit.

At the time, Rex Ryan called a time out and demanded an explanation about what he thought was an illegal hit by Ngata.

“I thought Haloti actually hit him in the back with his helmet first, but that being said, he made a great play,” Ryan said.

Despite there not being a penalty on the play, the NFL specifically fined him as if one had been called.

The NFL has fined Ngata $15,000 for roughing the passer.  “Specifically, on a pass play, he lowered his head and struck the opposing quarterback,” AFC information manager Corry Rush told PFT.

NFL Power Rankings, Week Four: Baltimore Ravens,…

The latest Power Rankings finds the Ravens challenging the Packers for NFL’s best overall team.

Oct 4, 2011 – What a fantastic weekend in the NFL once again with several games that surprised, but none more so than the incredible Dallas Cowboys vs. Detroit Lions match-up. The comeback by Detroit has the Motor City overjoyed while Jerry Jones and his team are trying to figure out what’s wrong (besides Tony Romo, of course). In other games, the Baltimore Ravens continue to show they might just be the best team in the NFL, while the Rams might just be the worst. No one knows what is wrong in St. Louis.

That said, it’s time for another Power Rankings after Week Four in the NFL. Check it out below:

1. Green Bay Packers (4-0) - The Packers were such a great story last year as the No. 6 playoff, but now there’s no denying their dominance over all.

2. Baltimore Ravens (3-1) –
They’ve only allowed 57 points all season, second to Titans, and the offense can go high octane.

3. New England Patriots (3-1) –
Brady and Belichick responded as we predicted and should win 12 games this year.

4. New Orleans Saints (3-1) - Defense needs a dominant performance at some point to believe they can go all the way. Upcoming Buccaneers game in Week 6 should provide chance.

5. Detroit Lions (4-0) – Cowboys beat themselves on this one and Lions should be 3-1. Still Stafford-to-Johnson looks historically good.

6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) – Good Monday night win for a quarterback who will undoubtedly be featured in primetime for years to come.

7. Buffalo Bills (3-1) - The Bengals clearly found a weakness, because the Bills defense kept this one close. The offense was inept at every turn.

8. Houston Texans (3-1) – Loss of Andre Johnson hurts prolific offense, but defense played great against Steelers.

9. San Diego Chargers (3-1) – Chargers have only scored 6 more points than they’ve allowed, worst of any division leader.

10. Tennessee Titans (3-1) - Least points allowed in NFL shows Mike Munchak’s stamp on team. If they beat Pittsburgh on Sunday, everyone will be talking about Titans as sleepers. You heard it here first.

11. New York Jets (2-2) - Rex Ryan is full of hot air, but that’s no surprise. What is surprising is that his team might be as well.

12. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2) – Tied with Browns and Bengals in AFC West with Big Ben injured. Upcoming games against Jags and Cardinals are just what they need.

13. Atlanta Falcons (2-2) –
Win against Eagles doesn’t look so hot. Neither does Sunday’s two point win over Seahawks.

14. Oakland Raiders (2-2) – Schizophrenic team needs defense to become consistent. Dangerous enough to win AFC West and then some. Could also finish 8-8 again.

15. New York Giants (3-1) - Despite significant injuries on defensive side of the ball, the G-Men have adjusted impressively.

16. San Francisco 49ers (3-1) -
They play Buccaneers and Lions next two weeks. That should even out the schedule, but it’s clear Jim Harbaugh is working some magic in the Bay Area.

17. Philadelphia Eagles (1-3) – Season is going down the drain, but NFC East isn’t looking good either. Things will come together soon starting this week for Eagles.

18. Chicago Bears (2-2) – Played Panthers a bit too close. Showdown with Lions this week will turn Bears season one way or the other.

19. Dallas Cowboys (2-2) - There’s absolutely no reason for the Cowboys to have lost Sunday. Horrible coaching and quarterback play will kill a team’s chances down the stretch.

20. Washington Redskins (3-1) – Do not be fooled by ridiculously easy schedule (including upcoming games with Panthers, Eagles). This is not even a .500 team.

21. Cleveland Browns (2-2) – I
f they don’t take advantage of easy front half of schedule, they’ll end up 5-11 on season.

22. Cincinnati Bengals (2-2) – Andy Dalton might or might not be the next Carson Palmer, but the defense absolutely ate the Bills for lunch on Sunday.

23. Kansas City Chiefs (1-3) –
Great work by Matt Cassel in face of doubters and Vikings defense. Chiefs play winless Colts next week, so heading toward .500 could come soon.

24. Carolina Panthers (1-3) - Defensive woes are going to keep this powerful offense at bay all season.

25. Denver Broncos (1-3) - Von Miller with two more sacks in losing effort. That will be the same headline all season.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-3) – Gabbert showed strong signs of life on Sunday but there’s a long way to go. This team could contend in the AFC South but not with a rookie QB.

27. Arizona Cardinals (1-3) -
Cardinals came close against Giants and should enjoy feasting on the Vikings’ carcass this weekend.

28. Minnesota Vikings (0-4) – Loss to Chiefs cements fact that Vikings are indeed as bad as their record. Hard to believe with Jared Allen, Adrian Peterson and company.

29. Indianapolis Colts (0-4) - Curtis Painter on the road tells you all you need to know. If not for superhuman efforts by Pierre Garcon, they would have looked horrible.

30. Miami Dolphins (0-4) – Sparano out in a few weeks. It won’t matter who they bring in.

31. Seattle Seahawks (1-3) - Tarvaris Jackson couldn’t get job done. Surprise anyone?

32. St. Louis Rams (0-4) -
The team lost Danny Amendola. Not Johnny Unitas. Steve Spagnuolo has allowed the wheels to fall off of this one.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens Match Preview :

Shaun Suisham has greatly improved the kicking game for Pittsburgh after taking over for Jeff Reed midway through the season. While Reed’s missed kicks in Pittsburgh’s week four loss to Baltimore were the difference in that game Suisham has converted 14 of15 (93%) of his attempts including 6 of 7 at the notoriously difficult Heinz Field.

Steelers, aided by three Baltimore turnovers in the span of one quarter, shut the door on the Ravens’ hopes of returning to the Super Bowl 10 years from their first appearance at the end of the 2000 NFL season. Four plays later in the rough-and-tumble matchup, Rashard Mendenhall scored from 2 yards out with 1:33 left to lift the Steelers to a 31-24 victory over the error-prone Ravens in Saturday’s AFC divisional playoff game.

Pittsburgh Steelers:

Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The team currently belongs to the North Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Ben Roethlisberger is going to have a mediocre game against the Ravens defense. Roethlisberger hasn’t had many big games against the Ravens defense over the past couple of seasons.

Baltimore Ravens:

Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football franchise based in Baltimore, Maryland. They are currently members of the North Division of the American Football Conference in the National Football League (NFL). NFL Preseason: Kansas City Chiefs Make Strides On…

The Kansas City Chiefs fall to 0-2 on the preseason as they lose to the Baltimore Ravens 31-13 Friday night in Baltimore.

Aug 20, 2011 – You can’t always judge a game based on the stats in the box score. Especially when you’re talking about a preseason game. It was true last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when the majority of Chiefs defensive starters didn’t even play. It was a little different story this week. The Chiefs starters did play on defense, but not quite as long as the Ravens starters played on offense.

The Chiefs had held Ravens starting running back Ray Rice to 18 yards on 6 carries before the 2nd team defense allowed a 26-yard touchdown run to Rice with 3 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter. It was a big play for the Ravens and seemed as if no Chiefs players were around as a cutback opened up the entire right side of the field for Rice to easily trot into the end zone.

Chiefs fans got a first look at former Baltimore Ravens nose tackle Kelly Gregg, and he was everything he has been advertised. He consistently clogged the middle of the line of scrimmage staying on his feet, allowing middle-linebacker Jovan Belcher to run around and make plays and lead the team with seven tackles on the night.

Tyson Jackson also had a fantastic game for the Chiefs as he showed why the Chiefs coaching staff has been singing his praises so far in camp. The defensive line was once thought to be a question mark heading into the season, but Friday’s game should bring a little optimism to Chiefs fans about what this group can accomplish this season. Rookie nose tackle Jerrel Powe showed again that he should not be pre-judged by his draft position (6th round), but from his performance on the field. For the second week in a row Powe gave Chiefs fans a few plays to remember heading into the regular season.

Despite the Ravens starting a rookie at right tackle in Jah Reid, the Chiefs defensive line did what they were supposed to do and held stout at the line of scrimmage for most of the night. Rookie linebacker Justin Houston picked up two big sacks for the Chiefs and was consistently around the ball making plays all night.

Rookie cornerback Jalil Brown did not impress Friday night like he had in the opener against Tampa Bay. The same goes for now-cornerback, once-wide receiver Quinten Lawrence, who is just trying to find a spot on the 53-man roster in some capacity. Brown got beat on a big pass play to Lee Evans that went for 43 yards to set up Rice’s touchdown run. And a pass interference call later in the game on Brown, when helooked much like Brandon Carr of 2009 in which he didn’t get his head around to see where the ball was coming from.

When it’s all said and done it is still a preseason game, but the Chiefs should be able to take some positives away from Friday’s game against the Ravens. They take on the St. Louis Rams next Friday in Kansas City.

Aug 11, 2011 – Philadelphia Eagles vs. Baltimore Ravens

The Philadelphia Eagles host the Baltimore Ravens Thursday night in a preseason opener that marks the start of the season for a team some are calling a “Dream Team.” The Eagles were very active in free agency, with their biggest splash being the addition of all-world cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. The Eagles also added Ronnie Brown and Vince Young to act as backups to Michael Vick and LeSean McCoy and seem to be emerging as one of the favorites in the NFC.

This first preseason game will allow the Eagles to figure out what some of their young guys can do. Starters generally do not play a whole lot in the first preseason game, often playing no more than a quarter. The Eagles preliminary depth chart has rookie Danny Watkins slotted in as the starter at right guard. Although Vick and the other starters likely won’t see a lot of playing time, Watkins is one starter who may stick in the game a bit longer. Eagles fans are excited about the young offensive lineman and will be keeping a close eye on him Thursday night.

As could be the case for many Eagles opponents this season, the Baltimore Ravens will be in the Philly shadow in this opener. The Ravens saw several long-time veterans leave this offseason including Todd Heap, Le’Ron McClain, and Dawan Landry, among others. The Ravens were not all that active in free agency, but they did make one splash in signing Vonta Leach as a legit replacement for McClain. Leach was one of the keys to Arian Foster’s breakout season in 2010 and should be a solid man in front of Ray Rice.

The Ravens are set with Joe Flacco at starting quarterback, but they will likely be paying close attention to the performances of Hunter Cantwell and Tyrod Taylor. Marc Bulger’s decision to retire leaves the Ravens without an experienced backup to Flacco. They might add a veteran that doesn’t survive roster cuts elsewhere, but in the meantime they need to see what Cantwell and Taylor bring to the table. Cantwell has a year in the NFL but no serious on-field experience while Taylor will have to overcome the stigma of being more of an athlete than a quarterback.

Jerricho Cotchery To Visit Baltimore Ravens On…

Free agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery is scheduled to visit the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday, according to reports from Ravens beat writer Aaron Wilson. The meeting comes two days after Cotchery visited the PIttsburgh Steelers and reportedly took a physical with the team.

Sources close to the Ravens have indicated that Baltimore has an interest in signing the seven-year veteran, but the team is still evaluating its options. Should Cotchery sign with the Ravens, he would join a wide receiver corps led by three-time Pro Bowl selection Anquan Boldin and a slew of inexperienced youngsters.

Cotchery surprised many within the NFL community last week by requesting to be released from the New York Jets. The 29-year-old spent his entire career with the franchise, and was firmly entrenched as a chief locker room leader.

In his time with the Jets, Cotchery consistently provided quality play as a starting receiver, catching 292 passes for 3,370 yards and 16 touchdowns from 2006 to 2009. After struggling through the ’10-’11 season with a severe disc condition in his back, he opted for surgery to repair the damage in February.

Ricky Williams Picks Baltimore Ravens, According…

Free agent RB Ricky Williams has elected to join the Baltimore Ravens, the team has confirmed.

Aug 8, 2011 – Free agent RB Ricky Williams has found the third team in his career he’ll play for — the Baltimore Ravens. Multiple reports say Williams decided on joining the Ravens after leaving the Miami Dolphins in free agency. He can earn up to $4 million on the two-year deal.

Everyone knows Ricky’s story. He was picked fifth overall by the New Orleans Saints in the 1999 NFL draft. He stayed in New Orleans for three seasons before moving onto the Dolphins in 2002 and putting in an All-Pro season with 1,853 rushing yards. He lead the league in rushing in both 2002 and 2003.

From there things went…down hill. He didn’t play in any games in 2004 and 2006, and played in just 13 total games from 2004-07.

The Ravens lost veteran RB Willie McGahee in free agency this year so Williams likely fills that role as a complement to RB Ray Rice. He’s had a strange career but Williams is a solid signing in this situation for the Ravens.

To see what Ravens fans think about the newest player, check out Baltimore Beatdown.

Marshal Yanda, Baltimore Ravens Reportedly Agree…

According to Aaron Wilson, the Baltimore Ravens and guard Marshall Yanda have reached an agreement on a five-year deal in the $32 million range.

Jul 26, 2011 – According to Aaron Wilson, the Baltimore Ravens and guard Marshall Yanda have reached an agreement on a five-year deal in the $32 million range.

Yanda is entering his fifth season in the NFL after being drafted by the Ravens in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Last season he started all 16 regular season games for the first time in his career and has 42 career starts.

Yanda didn’t receive the attention that his free agent Raven teammates have, but he has been a vital part of the team for years.

His ability to create a push along the line has been critical to the offense moving the ball on the ground. Although he shines as a road grader, he’s also a polished technician with the feet and hands to pass protect.

With several teams in desperate need of a starting offensive lineman, it was assumed that he would be in high demand if Baltimore couldn’t wrap him up quickly.

Baltimore Ravens Expected To Sign University Of…

Read More: nfl undrafted free agents, damien berry, 2011 nfl undrafted free agents, 2011 nfl undrafted free agency, 2011 nfl undrafted free agent signings, Damien Berry (RB – Miami), Baltimore Ravens, Miami Hurricanes

Undrafted free agent and former Miami Hurricane running back Damien Berry will join the Baltimore Ravens, according to reports. The news was announced late Monday night, and confirmed by Baltimore Ravens beat reporter Aaron Wilson.

Berry enters the NFL on the heels a strong senior campaign in which he rushed for 899 yards and five touchdowns, while earning 2010 All-ACC Second Team honors. He also caught ten passes for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Leading into the draft, Berry was highly regarded, ranking as the 26th best running back out of a class of 160. Listing in at five-foot ten inches, 211 pounds, the Belle Glade native impressed scouts at the NFL combine with a top-rated performance in the 20-yard shuttle run.

According to projections at NFL.com, despite going undrafted Berry could become a significant contributor on the right team.

Berry’s a potential backup who can also contribute on special teams covering kicks but doesn’t possess the explosiveness or power to develop into a starter. Reads his blocks well but doesn’t always have enough burst to the hole and lacks the top-end speed to take it the distance when breaking past the second level. Isn’t a pile-pusher or a good fit for short yardage situations but does a nice job maintaining balance on contact and can break tackles when defenders fail to wrap up.

For more on the Baltimore Ravens, visit Baltimore Beatdown. For more on Damien Berry and the Miami Hurricanes, visit The 7th Floor.

Running low on time today, i’ll be back tomorrow hopefully with some more news.

Ravens’ Rice wants to stay in Baltimore

Ray RiceBaltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice(notes) is about to enter into his final season under contract with the team and would like to stick around for more.

“You start to think about where you want to play long-term,” Rice said, the Baltimore Sun reports. “I don’t see why I wouldn’t want to stay in Baltimore. I’ve done right by them. I’m hoping one day that we’re all right for each other and make it a long-term deal.”"

Rice, who has averaged 119.3 yards per game for the last two seasons, will earn $550,000 this year. Last year, the 24-year-old gained 1,220 yards rushing and scored five touchdowns.
