BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Ravens achieved perfection at home for the first time, and now they’re looking to add to that ledger in the playoffs.

Joe Flacco threw two touchdown passes, and the Ravens beat the bumbling Cleveland Browns 20-14 on Saturday to move one step closer to winning the AFC North.

Ray Rice ran for 87 yards and caught a TD pass for the Ravens (11-4), who led 17-0 at halftime and held on.

“I have never been perfect at home in 16 years of football. That’s amazing,” Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis said. “As good of teams we’ve had here, we’ve always found [a way] to lose one or two here or there. I think this year we really made a focus on taking care at home. This is the result, us being able to go 8-0 and being able to be sitting where you want to sit at the end of the day.”

The Ravens would win the AFC North by defeating Cincinnati on the road next week. That would also give Baltimore a first-round bye and a home playoff game – two if New England loses next Sunday at home against Buffalo.

“It’s big, man,” linebacker Terrell Suggs said. “We are at our best when we are at (home) and our fans are rocking. So we definitely need a home playoff game, by any means necessary.”

Flacco went 11 for 24 with touchdown passes to Rice and tight end Ed Dickson. He also had a 33-yard run.

Josh Cribbs had a career-high 84-yard punt return for a TD for Cleveland (4-11). But the Browns generated very little offense and were guilty of questionable play calling, bad clock management and untimely penalties in their fifth straight loss.

Cleveland saved the worst for last. Having already burned their three timeouts, the Browns lined up on defense after the two-minute warning with the Ravens facing a fourth-and-2 at the Cleveland 37.

It appeared obvious that Flacco and the Ravens were merely hoping to draw the Browns offside.

As the play clock moved close to zero, Cleveland tackle Phil Taylor jumped across the line of scrimmage to give Baltimore a first down.

“It was the first hard count and we stayed onside,” Taylor said. “The second time, I just jumped. Of course you feel bad, but you just got to move on.”

Said Flacco: “I don’t know if I’ve ever been in position for that to happen. It’s never worked.”

The Ravens then ran out the clock on their eighth straight win over the Browns, including two this month.

“We knew this would be quite a challenge for us,” Cleveland quarterback Seneca Wallace said. “We’re playing the Ravens at home, and they’re playing for everything. I should have played better, and I should have made better decisions.”

Wallace went 19 for 33 for 147 yards in place of Colt McCoy, who was out with a concussion. Peyton Hillis ran for 112 yards, but Cleveland’s offense mounted only one decent drive.

The Browns took the opening kickoff and moved from their own 26 to the Baltimore 30 behind the power of Hillis, who gained 30 yards on six carries. But on a third-and-1, Cleveland inexplicably went to the air, and Lardarius Webb intercepted Wallace’s pass for Mohamed Massaquoi.

Flacco immediately threw deep for Torrey Smith, who drew a 60-yard penalty for pass interference on Mike Adams to set up a 5-yard touchdown pass to Dickson.

Later, a 29-yard throw from Flacco to Smith led to a 48-yard field goal by newcomer Shayne Graham, signed in the middle of the week to take over for the injured Billy Cundiff.

After another Cleveland punt, Flacco directed an 82-yard drive that gave Baltimore a 17-0 lead. Rice slipped behind linebacker D’Qwell Jackson on the right sideline, caught a soft pass in stride and sprinted into the end zone to complete a 42-yard scoring play.

That made Flacco 5 for 5 for 94 yards and two touchdowns on third down.

Cleveland moved deep into Baltimore territory late in the first half, thanks in part to a 30-yard pass interference call against Chris Carr. But with the clock inside 10 seconds and the Browns without a timeout left, Wallace handed off to Hillis instead of spiking the ball, and Hillis went nowhere.

Wallace took the blame, and so did Browns coach Pat Shurmur.

“I need to communicate it better, OK?” Shurmur said.

Time expired before Cleveland could get off another play, and the Browns headed to the locker room after being held scoreless in the first half for the second time this season. The other time it happened was also against Baltimore.

Graham kicked a 43-yard field goal in the third quarter to make it 20-0.

The Browns finally scored when Cribbs took a punt on the right sideline, escaped an arm tackle and broke toward the center of the field before outrunning three defenders into the left corner of the end zone late in the third quarter.

“I was wondering where all the defenders were,” Cribbs said. “I saw all the great blocking around me. From there, it was easy. It was just a walk in.”

Cribbs also contributed to Cleveland’s next touchdown, catching a 23-yard pass from Wallace as part of an 80-yard drive that ended with a 9-yard TD throw to Evan Moore midway through the fourth quarter.

The Browns forced a punt, but on a fourth-and-4 from the Cleveland 45 with 4:03 left, a pass to Hillis did not produce the necessary yardage.

Taylor’s jump across the line of scrimmage soon followed.

      Notes

Ravens KR David Reed hurt his left knee and declared himself out for the season. Also, Baltimore OT Marshal Yanda (chest) and CB Cary Williams (concussion) did not play in the second half.

Shurmur said the Browns sustained no serious injuries. Cleveland closes the season next Sunday against Pittsburgh.

That’s all for today.

BALTIMORE—After the Baltimore Ravens completed their first unbeaten season at home, all that’s left to accomplish during the regular season is securing at least one playoff game on their own turf.

Joe Flacco threw two touchdown passes, and the Ravens beat the bumbling Cleveland Browns 20-14 on Saturday to move one step closer to winning the AFC North.

Ray Rice ran for 87 yards and caught a TD pass for the Ravens (11-4), who led 17-0 at halftime and held on to wrap up an 8-0 season at home.

Baltimore would win AFC North by defeating Cincinnati on the road next week. That would also give the Ravens a first-round bye and a home playoff game—two if New England loses next Sunday at home against Buffalo.

With no timeouts left, the Browns lined up on defense after the two-minute warning with the Ravens facing a fourth-and-2 at the Cleveland 37.

It appeared obvious that Flacco and the Ravens were merely hoping to draw the Browns offside. As the play clock moved close to zero, Cleveland tackle Phil Taylor jumped across the line of scrimmage to give Baltimore a first down.

The Ravens then ran out the clock on their eighth straight win over the Browns, including two this month.

Seneca Wallace went 19 for 33 for 147 yards in place of Colt McCoy, who was out with a concussion.

Cleveland then punted, and a 29-yard throw from Flacco to Smith led to a 48-yard field goal by newcomer Shayne Graham, signed in the middle of the week to take over for the injured Billy Cundiff.

But with the clock inside 10 seconds and the Browns without a timeout left, Hillis ran the ball and was stopped at the 3.

Time expired before Cleveland could get off another play, and the Browns headed to the locker room after being held scoreless in the first half for the second time this season. The other time it happened was earlier this month—against Baltimore.

Cribbs also contributed to Cleveland’s next touchdown, catching a 23-yard pass from Wallace as part of an 80-yard drive that ended with a 9-yard TD throw to Evan Moore with 8:22 remaining.

The Browns forced a punt, but Wallace used their last timeout on a fourth-and-4 from the Cleveland 45 with 4:03 left. A pass to Hillis came up short, and Baltimore took over.

Taylor’s jump across the line of scrimmage soon followed.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Eight games, eight wins. The Baltimore Ravens achieved perfection at home for the first time, and now they’re looking to add to that ledger in the playoffs.

“As good of teams we’ve had here, we’ve always found (a way) to lose one or two here or there. I think this year we really made a focus on taking care at home. This is the result, us being able to go 8-0 and being able to be sitting where you want to sit at the end of the day.”

The Ravens would win the AFC North by defeating Cincinnati on the road next week. That would also give Baltimore a first-round bye and a home playoff game — two if New England loses next Sunday at home against Buffalo.

Cribbs also contributed to Cleveland‘s next touchdown, catching a 23-yard pass from Wallace as part of an 80-yard drive that ended with a 9-yard TD throw to Evan Moore midway through the fourth quarter.

The Browns forced a punt, but on a fourth-and-4 from the Cleveland 45 with 4:03 left, a pass to Hillis did not produce the necessary yardage.

Taylor’s jump across the line of scrimmage soon followed.

NOTES: Ravens KR David Reed hurt his left knee and declared himself out for the season. Also, Baltimore OT Marshal Yanda (chest) and CB Cary Williams (concussion) did not play in the second half. … Shurmur said the Browns sustained no serious injuries. Cleveland closes the season next Sunday against Pittsburgh.

The Baltimore Ravens are in control of their destiny in the AFC North and
the race for a first-round bye. Maintaining that edge, though, will likely be
difficult if they turn in another lackluster performance.

A matchup with the ailing Cleveland Browns on Saturday would appear to give
the Ravens a good chance to stay on track for the division crown and the No. 2
seed, with Baltimore having dominated the series of late.

The Ravens (10-4) have put themselves in control with a sweep of division
rival Pittsburgh and a victory over Houston on Oct. 16, giving them a leg up on
those 10-4 teams.

Baltimore, though, missed out last week on a chance to move ahead of the
Steelers and Texans, both of whom lost. With a playoff berth already wrapped up,
the Ravens were blown out 34-14 in San Diego.

Pittsburgh fell 20-3 to San Francisco on Monday night, and Houston was upset
28-13 at home by Carolina.

“It’s a gift, but we wish we didn’t have to get it that way,” Ravens
linebacker Terrell Suggs said. “We’ve just got to take care of business.”

Baltimore, winner of nine in a row at home dating to last December, appears
to have a good chance to do that with Cleveland (4-10) visiting M&T Bank
Stadium. The Ravens have won seven straight over the Browns, tied for the
longest win streak against an opponent in team history. They’ve also won seven
consecutive games over the New York Jets.

Baltimore’s latest victory in the series came Dec. 4 as Ray Rice ran for a
career-high 204 yards in a 24-10 win. Ricky Williams added 76 yards rushing as
the Ravens piled up 290 on the ground.

Cleveland has made adjustments as it looks to slow down Rice. The Browns
allowed 147 rushing yards in a 14-3 loss to Pittsburgh on Dec. 8, but limited
Arizona to 74 in a 20-17 overtime defeat last week.

“The goal (is) to make sure we minimize his effect on the game,” coach Pat
Shurmur told the team’s website. “We’ve done some things schematically to help
us, and we just keep emphasizing that everyone has to play better. I’ve seen
that.”

At 3-4 on the road, winning this game might prove vital to Baltimore’s
chances of accomplishing its regular-season goals. The Ravens close out their
schedule at Cincinnati on Jan. 1.

“We’re playing two teams that know us very well, two division foes, so it’s
going to be interesting,” Suggs said. “We’ve got to get back to doing what we do
best, and that’s playing Ravens football.”

Suggs, who has a career-high 13 sacks, chased down Colt McCoy for one of
those, but the Browns quarterback likely won’t play this week. McCoy has been
out since taking a hit to the head against Pittsburgh earlier this month.

The controversy surrounding Cleveland’s failure to check McCoy for a
concussion has led the NFL to put certified trainer in every press box. McCoy
still had symptoms of a concussion Wednesday and has yet to be cleared to return
to the field.

“Like anybody that wants to play, he’s anxious to get back out there,”
Shurmur said. “But he understands there is a process that you have to go through
before he will be able to play again.”

With McCoy out, Seneca Wallace is expected to start again after he threw for
226 yards and a touchdown versus the Cardinals. His 76-yard scoring pass to Greg
Little gave the Browns a 17-7 third-quarter lead, but they couldn’t hold it and
suffered a season-high fourth consecutive defeat and sixth in a row on the road.

Wallace’s one start against the Ravens came in the team’s most recent trip
to Baltimore on Sept. 26, 2010. He threw for 141 yards and a TD in a 24-17
defeat, while counterpart Joe Flacco passed for three touchdowns.

Flacco has eight TDs and one interception over his last six matchups with
the Browns, who might need a strong performance from Peyton Hillis to help snap
their losing streak.

In his fourth game since returning from an injured hamstring, Hillis ran for
a season-high 99 yards and a touchdown last week. He rushed for a then-career
high 144 yards in Baltimore last September but has been held to a combined 80
over the past two matchups.

The Ravens might have a new kicker for this game as Billy Cundiff is dealing
with a sore left calf. On Wednesday, the team signed Shayne Graham, an 11-year
veteran who has played for six other teams.

That’s all for today guys, i’ll be back to blog you tomorrow.

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh arrived for work in a good mood Tuesday morning following the San Francisco 49ers’ pivotal victory Monday night over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

And with good reason: The Ravens moved back into first place with the Steelers’ loss.

“He was coming in: ‘Did you see that game? Who won?’” quarterback Joe Flacco said of Harbaugh. “OK, we all know who won the game. We know you’re way more excited now than you were two days ago. You could definitely tell he was excited, and we should be. We’re obviously in a better position because of what happened.”

The 49ers’ win over the Ravens’ AFC North rival puts the Ravens (10-4) back in first place in the AFC North and seeded second in the playoff standings.

The Ravens’ embarrassing 34-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Sunday night knocked them out of first place in the division for a day, and they fell from the top-seeded team in the AFC to fifth. Now, they’re ranked second in the playoff seeding behind the New England Patriots.

The Ravens own the tiebreaker edge over the Steelers (10-4) after sweeping their annual series earlier this season. They are now in position to earn a first-round bye and a home playoff game provided they win their final two regular-season games against the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Man, it was a fun to watch,” Harbaugh said. “It was pretty cool. The fact that if we win both games now, we will win the division, that means a lot. That’s really meaningful. It’s a tough league, and we have to win every week.”

However, the Ravens would have preferred to not require assistance.

“It’s a gift, but we wish we didn’t have to get it that way,” outside linebacker Terrell Suggs said.

The Ravens are 7-0 at home heading into Saturday’s game at M&T Bank Stadium against the Browns.

And they’re undefeated in their previous games against Cleveland and Cincinnati this season.

“We’ve just got to take care of business,” Suggs said. “We’re playing two teams that know us very well, two division foes, so it’s going to be interesting. We’ve got to get back to doing what we do best, and that’s playing Ravens football.”

						BALTIMORE —

The Baltimore Ravens continue to win without their defensive leader. The Indianapolis Colts are running out of time in their bid to get a single victory without their offensive captain.

Terrell Suggs had three sacks and forced three fumbles, and the Ravens moved closer to securing their fourth straight trip to the postseason by defeating the winless Colts 24-10 Sunday.

Playing a fourth straight game without middle linebacker Ray Lewis, Baltimore (10-3) sacked Dan Orlovsky four times and allowed only 53 yards through the first three quarters. The Ravens are 4-0 while Lewis nurses a sore right toe, and the defense should get even better when he finally returns.

“Right now I think we’re all just doing our part holding the levee until the general gets back,” Suggs said. “That’s why I honestly think we’re playing the way we are.”

Joe Flacco threw two touchdown passes and Ray Rice ran for 103 yards and a score to help the Ravens improve to 7-0 at home. Baltimore is tied with Pittsburgh for the lead in the AFC North, but the Ravens hold the tiebreaker because of their two wins over the Steelers.

“We have control of our own destiny,” Rice said. “We’re in the driver’s seat. As long as we keep winning, we’ll be fine.”

The Colts, on the other hand, just keep losing. Indianapolis (0-13) has three games left to nab a victory and avoid joining the 2008 Detroit Lions as the only NFL teams to finish 0-16.

“We need to find a way to get our team better so we can get a victory,” coach Jim Caldwell said. “And not just one. We’re running out of time.”

The Ravens had lost eight straight to Indianapolis, but that was when Peyton Manning was healthy and at the top of his game. The 11-time Pro Bowl quarterback has yet to play this year because of a neck injury, and his absence has turned a perennial playoff team into a hapless, hopeless crew.

“It’s miserable. It’s not fun,” wide receiver Austin Collie said. “With the few games left, I don’t think we want to end the year on this note.”

Orlovsky, the third Colts quarterback to start this season, went 17 for 37 for 136 yards and an interception. He was sacked four times and hounded throughout the game by Suggs.

“He’s as good a pass rusher as I’ve played against,” Orlovsky said. “I can’t say anything bad about him as a football player.”

Suggs attributed Baltimore’s success to the schemes set in place by Chuck Pagano, who’s in his first season as Baltimore’s defensive coordinator. To emphasize the point, Suggs sarcastically made Pagano out to be clueless.

“If anybody trying to hire a head coach asks me, I’m going to tell them he (stinks),” Suggs said. “He’s a terrible coach and his players don’t love him. He don’t know what he’s doing when he’s calling a game.”

The game was far more lopsided than the final score would indicate. Baltimore led 17-3 at halftime and 24-3 in the third quarter, and the Colts drove 76 yards in the final two minutes in a drive that ended with Orlovsky throwing a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Tamme as time expired.

It was quite a drop off after Indianapolis scored 21 points in the fourth quarter at New England one week earlier.

“We were hoping to pick up where we left off,” Tamme said. “But their defense is so tough. They always play well.”

The Ravens needed less than five minutes to take the lead for good. After the Colts went three-and-out following the opening kickoff, Lardarius Webb returned a punt 27 yards to the Indianapolis 40 and Flacco capped a six-play drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Torrey Smith.

Baltimore’s next march covered 66 yards over 13 plays and ended with a 36-yard field goal by Billy Cundiff for a 10-0 lead.

The first quarter ended with the Ravens holding a 111-10 advantage in yardage and an 8-1 lead in first downs.

Nothing changed in the second quarter. Baltimore forced a punt and Flacco went 5 for 7 for 54 yards in a 10-play drive that ended with a 6-yard touchdown run by Rice.

Indianapolis finally got into Baltimore territory when Joe Lefeged returned the ensuing kickoff 51 yards. Orlovsky then completed a fourth-down pass to Dallas Clark, and Adam Vinatieri kicked a field goal to make it 17-3 late in the half.

Baltimore went ahead 24-3 with 3:41 left in the third quarter. Flacco rolled to his right and was near the sideline when he threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Dennis Pitta in the middle of the end zone.

Flacco went 23 for 31 for 227 yards and an interception.

Notes: Suggs has a career-high 13 sacks. … The Colts have only six INTs this season. … Flacco went over 3,000 yards passing and Rice eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing. … Smith’s TD gave him six, tying Jamal Lewis for most by a Ravens rookie. … Indy’s Dwight Freeney had two sacks to go over 100 for his career.

BALTIMORE (AP) — As long as
Terrell Suggs
continues to go harass opposing quarterbacks, and if defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano repeatedly finds the perfect blitzes
to call, the
Baltimore Ravens
will keep on winning without
Ray Lewis
.

Suggs had three sacks and forced three fumbles as part of an overwhelming defensive performance by the Ravens, who kept the

      Indianapolis Colts
winless with a 24-10 victory Sunday.

Lewis, Baltimore’s standout middle linebacker and longtime defensive leader, missed a fourth straight game with a right toe
injury. The Ravens (10-3) have won every one of those games.

“Right now I think we’re all just doing our part holding the levee until the general gets back,” Suggs said. “That’s why I
honestly think we’re playing the way we are.”

Baltimore limited the hapless Colts to 167 yards – just 53 through three quarters. Were it not for a touchdown on the game’s
final play, Indianapolis would have been held without a TD for only the second time since the 2003 season opener.

Baltimore didn’t recover any of the three fumbles that Suggs forced, but he harassed Colts quarterback
Dan Orlovsky
throughout the afternoon.

“We shut them down early, and then they had to start passing the ball,” Ravens defensive tackle
Haloti Ngata
said. “That’s when
Terrell Suggs
went crazy.”

Suggs, a movie buff, described the action this way: “It’s chaos out there. A lot is going on more than you see. It’s like
`The Matrix’ out there with a little bit of `Inception’. It’s a little bit crazy.”

      Joe Flacco
threw two touchdown passes and
Ray Rice
ran for 103 yards and a score to help the Ravens win their fourth straight and improve to 7-0 at home. Baltimore is tied with
Pittsburgh for the lead in the AFC North, but the Ravens hold the tiebreaker because of their two wins over the Steelers.

“We have control of our own destiny,” Rice said. “We’re in the driver’s seat. As long as we keep winning, we’ll be fine.”

The Ravens had lost eight straight to Indianapolis, but that was when
Peyton Manning
was healthy and at the top of his game. He has yet to play this year because of a neck injury.

Orlovsky, the third Colts quarterback to start this season, went 17 for 37 for 136 yards and an interception. He was sacked
four times and hounded throughout the game by Suggs.

“He’s as good a pass rusher as I’ve played against,” Orlovsky said of Suggs. “I can’t say anything bad about him as a football
player.”

Suggs attributed Baltimore’s success to the schemes set in place by Pagano, in his first season as Baltimore’s defensive coordinator.
To emphasize the point, Suggs sarcastically made Pagano out to be clueless.

“If anybody trying to hire a head coach, if they ask me I’m going to tell them he (stinks),” Suggs said. “He’s a terrible
coach and his players don’t love him. He don’t know what he’s doing when he’s calling a game.”

The game was far more lopsided than the final score would indicate. Baltimore led 17-3 at halftime and 24-3 in the third quarter,
and the Colts drove 76 yards in the final two minutes in a drive that ended with Orlovsky throwing a 13-yard touchdown pass
to
Jacob Tamme
as time expired.

Indianapolis has three games left in the season. If the Colts don’t win, they will join the 2008
Detroit Lions
as the only NFL team to go 0-16 in a season.

“Losing (stinks), no matter what it is,” Orlovsky said. “Whether it’s football, if it’s rock-paper, none of us like to lose.
There’s nothing fun about losing.”

Colts coach Jim Caldwell said, “We need to find a way to get our team better so we can get a victory. And not just one. We’re
running out of time.”

The Ravens needed less than five minutes to take the lead for good. After the Colts went three and out following the opening
kickoff,
Lardarius Webb
returned a punt 27 yards to the Indianapolis 40 and Flacco capped a six-play drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass to
Torrey Smith
.

Baltimore’s next march covered 66 yards over 13 plays and ended with a 36-yard field goal by
Billy Cundiff
for a 10-0 lead.

The first quarter ended with the Ravens holding a 111-10 advantage in yardage and an 8-1 lead in first downs.

Nothing changed in the second quarter. Baltimore forced a punt and Flacco went 5 for 7 for 54 yards in a 10-play drive that
ended with a 6-yard touchdown run by Rice.

Indianapolis finally got into Baltimore territory when
Joe Lefeged
returned the ensuing kickoff 51 yards. Orlovsky then completed a fourth-down pass to
Dallas Clark
, and
Adam Vinatieri
kicked a field goal to make it 17-3 late in the half.

Baltimore went ahead 24-3 with 3:41 left in the third quarter. Flacco rolled to his right and was near the sideline when he
threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to
Dennis Pitta
in the middle of the end zone.

Flacco went 23 for 31 for 227 yards and an interception.

NOTES: Suggs has a career-high 13 sacks. … The Colts have only six INTs this season. … Flacco went over 3,000 yards passing
and Rice eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing. … Smith’s TD gave him six, tying Jamal Lewis for most by a Ravens rookie. … Indy’s

      Dwight Freeney
had two sacks to go over 100 for his career.

BALTIMORE – If Peyton Manning was playing football this season, the Baltimore Ravens would be talking about the importance of ending an eight-game losing streak against the Indianapolis Colts and their esteemed quarterback.

The Colts don’t have Manning, or even a single victory. So the Ravens are approaching Sunday’s game with caution, because they know all about the danger of facing a winless team this late in the season.

In 2007, the Miami Dolphins were 0-13 before Cleo Lemon connected with Greg Camarillo on a 64-yard touchdown pass in overtime for a 22-16 victory. It turned out to be Miami’s only win of the season.

This Baltimore team is far superior to that one, but the memory of that embarrassing defeat still lingers among those Ravens who played that day.

Asked if there was concern about playing the winless Colts, linebacker Terrell Suggs replied, “Yeah, because I lost to an O-fer team. A little slant route got us. This is the NFL, and (the Colts) are professionals. We expect them to line up and come up in here and play. They are just as big a threat to us as if we were playing anybody else.”

That loss to Miami was the lowlight of a season during which the Ravens finished 5-11. Head coach Brian Billick was fired soon after the final game, and owner Steve Bisciotti hired John Harbaugh to bring the team back into prominence.

Harbaugh has done exactly that. Baltimore reached the playoffs in each of his first three seasons, and this year the Ravens (9-3) are poised to capture the AFC North title and perhaps the top seed in the conference.

The absolute last thing the Ravens need is to lose at home against the struggling Colts (0-12).

“We have to win the football game to achieve what we want to do,” Suggs said.

What the Colts want to do is avoid becoming the second team in NFL history to finish 0-16. Playing without Manning, who’s missed the entire season with a neck injury, has been far too big an obstacle to overcome.

“Obviously, you don’t want to ever have a season like this,” Indianapolis defensive end Dwight Freeney said. “Us especially, we are not used to this at all. We are used to making the playoffs nine years straight and all that. Winning records, and all of that. This is definitely a different feeling.”

Making up for the loss of Manning was tough enough, but the Colts also have been without linebacker Gary Brackett (shoulder) since the first week of the season, and safety Melvin Bullitt (shoulder) played in only the first two games.

“We’ve lost a lot of key guys at a lot of key positions,” Freeney said.

If the Colts are to pull off a monumental upset, they must duplicate some of their previous performances against the Ravens. Although Manning was certainly a factor in helping Indy go 8-0 against Baltimore since 2001, the defence was most responsible. The Colts haven’t given up a touchdown to the Ravens in three straight games, the last one a 20-3 win in the 2009 playoffs.

With Freeney on one end and Robert Mathis on the other, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco knows he won’t have the luxury of dropping back into the pocket and casually surveying the field.

“They have a lot of pursuit,” Flacco said. “They react to the ball quickly, and they’ve kept us out of the end zone because of that.” The Colts have also been tough against the run. Baltimore running back Ray Rice got 23 yards rushing in 2008, 71 in a regular-season game in 2009 and 67 in that aforementioned post-season defeat.

“That defence is very fast. We have not fared well against them,” Harbaugh said. “We’ve turned the ball over, we didn’t run the ball on them, we’ve gotten sacked, we’ve had plays for negative yards. It’s been a theme against that defence. So we’ve got our work cut out for us. We understand that.”

The biggest thing the Ravens have going for them is playing at home, where they’re 6-0 this season and have won 16 of 17. Baltimore will probably play a fourth straight game without injured middle linebacker Ray Lewis (right toe), but the league’s third-ranked defence is still plenty good enough to contain Dan Orlovsky, the Colts’ third different starting quarterback this season.

Most of all, the Ravens know they have to win to stay on course for the post-season.

“We know what we’re playing for. We know what they’re playing for,” Suggs said. “They are trying to get their first win; we are trying to pile these wins up and go on a playoff run. That’s what is most important to us. Here they come. Let’s do it.”

That’s all the news for today.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis will not play against the Browns, sitting out his third straight game with turf toe.

Lewis did not practice this week. He will be replaced in the lineup by Dannell Ellerbe. Lewis started 57 straight games before missing the Nov. 20 game against Cincinnati. The Ravens are being cautious with Lewis, hoping they can hold onto first in the AFC North while he recovers.

Browns running back Montario Hardesty is active after missing four games with a calf injury. Hardesty was set to make his return last week at Cincinnati but aggravated his injury during warmups. With Hardesty back and Peyton Hillis healthy after missing five games with a hamstring injury, the Browns are as healthy on offense as they’ve been all season.

(Sports Network) – The Baltimore Ravens have had trouble this season following up big victories when they face a team below .500. They have a chance to buck that trend this Sunday with a matchup with the last-place Cleveland Browns.

The Ravens look to win a sixth straight divisional game and seventh in a row over the Browns this weekend at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

With an 8-3 record, Baltimore is not only tied with Pittsburgh for first place in the AFC North, but for the best record in the conference along with New England and Houston. The Ravens could be in an even better position, but all three of its losses this year have come against teams that were under .500 at the time.

Baltimore followed up a big Week 1 win over Pittsburgh with a loss in Tennessee, knocked off first-place Houston on Oct. 16 one week before an ugly defeat in Jacksonville and then followed up a road win over the Steelers with a setback in Seattle.

The Ravens hope those woes, which seem to creep up on the road, don’t follow them to Cleveland after they knocked off San Francisco by a 16-6 score in the “Harbaugh Bowl” on Thanksgiving. Baltimore used a club record-tying nine sacks and a touchdown pass from Joe Flacco to tight end Dennis Pitta to give head coach John Harbaugh a victory over the Niners and their sideline general, little brother Jim Harbaugh.

“It’s just a big win for us,” said John Harbaugh afterward. “It’s an opportunity going forward. It positions us really well. Now we have to conquer a game in Cleveland, one that’s been plaguing us all year.”‘

Harbaugh was referring to the Ravens’ issues against losing teams following big wins. Baltimore needs to shake the trend quickly, as its next four games are all against teams under .500, a stretch that is book-marked with games versus the Browns.

Baltimore’s head coach shook off the notion that his team just wasn’t ready for those games, saying that the Ravens just didn’t play well. He also stressed the challenge of this game given that the Browns are in the same division and are coming off a solid showing.

“We’ve got to turn over every stone,” Harbaugh said. “We certainly acknowledge that those three losses, coming off of big wins, against teams with sub-.500 records, were not good performances. They are team losses the way we look at it — coaches, players, all of us.”

The Browns certainly seem capable of pulling off the upset considering their performance last weekend in a 23-20 loss to Cincinnati. Cleveland, though, failed to hold leads of 17-7 and 20-10 as the Bengals’ Mike Nugent hit a 26- yard game-winning field with 38 ticks left.

That came after Cleveland’s Phil Dawson missed a 55-yard attempt at the other end following a bad snap. He had already hit a season-long 54-yarder earlier in the game, but long snapper Ryan Pontbriand’s toss back to the holder was low.

Pontbriand fell on the sword Tuesday, getting released.

“We didn’t finish it off,” said Browns head coach Pat Shurmur. “The Bengals did a good job of coming back on us. Just like if we had won the game it’d be a team victory, we lost the game and it was a team loss.”

Cleveland has lost four of its last five games and does not have an easy road to the end of its season. Four of its final five tests are against AFC North co-leaders Baltimore and Pittsburgh, including a meeting at the Ravens on Dec. 24.

The Ravens, meanwhile, have won two in a row despite playing both games without linebacker Ray Lewis, whom Harbaugh said has a chance of returning for this game.

Baltimore, which has won seven of its last eight versus AFC North opponents, can reach 9-3 for the second time in team history with a victory over Cleveland, joining the 2006 club.

SERIES HISTORY

The Ravens own a commanding 17-7 lead in their all-time series with the Browns, whose first edition of the franchise moved to Baltimore to become the Ravens prior to the 1996 season before re-entering the NFL as an expansion team in 1999, and have won each of the last six bouts between the rivals. Baltimore recorded its third straight home-and-home sweep of the Browns by following up a 24-17 home victory during Week 3 of the 2010 season with a 20-10 triumph in Cleveland last December, and also left Ohio with wins in both 2008 (37-27) and 2009 (16-0). The Browns last bested the Ravens via a 33-30 overtime decision at M&T Bank Stadium on Nov. 18, 2007 and topped Baltimore at home by a 27-13 count that same year as well.

Harbaugh is 6-0 lifetime against the Browns as a head coach, while Shurmur will be facing both the Ravens and Harbaugh in his current position. The two sideline bosses previously worked together on the staff of the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999-2007, with Shurmur then the team’s quarterback coach and Harbaugh the special teams coordinator and later in charge of defensive backs.

(Sports Network) – The Baltimore Ravens have had trouble this season following
up big victories when they face a team below .500. They have a chance to buck
that trend this Sunday with a matchup with the last-place Cleveland Browns.

The Ravens look to win a sixth straight divisional game and seventh in a row
over the Browns this weekend at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

With an 8-3 record, Baltimore is not only tied with Pittsburgh for first place
in the AFC North, but for the best record in the conference along with New
England and Houston. The Ravens could be in an even better position, but all
three of its losses this year have come against teams that were under .500 at
the time.

Baltimore followed up a big Week 1 win over Pittsburgh with a loss in
Tennessee, knocked off first-place Houston on Oct. 16 one week before an ugly
defeat in Jacksonville and then followed up a road win over the Steelers with a
setback in Seattle.

The Ravens hope those woes, which seem to creep up on the road, don’t follow
them to Cleveland after they knocked off San Francisco by a 16-6 score in the
“Harbaugh Bowl” on Thanksgiving. Baltimore used a club record-tying nine sacks
and a touchdown pass from Joe Flacco to tight end Dennis Pitta to give head
coach John Harbaugh a victory over the Niners and their sideline general,
little brother Jim Harbaugh.

“It’s just a big win for us,” said John Harbaugh afterward. “It’s an
opportunity going forward. It positions us really well. Now we have to conquer
a game in Cleveland, one that’s been plaguing us all year.”‘

Harbaugh was referring to the Ravens’ issues against losing teams following
big wins. Baltimore needs to shake the trend quickly, as its next four games
are all against teams under .500, a stretch that is book-marked with games
versus the Browns.

Baltimore’s head coach shook off the notion that his team just wasn’t ready for
those games, saying that the Ravens just didn’t play well. He also stressed the
challenge of this game given that the Browns are in the same division and are
coming off a solid showing.

“We’ve got to turn over every stone,” Harbaugh said. “We certainly acknowledge
that those three losses, coming off of big wins, against teams with sub-.500
records, were not good performances. They are team losses the way we look at it
— coaches, players, all of us.”

The Browns certainly seem capable of pulling off the upset considering their
performance last weekend in a 23-20 loss to Cincinnati. Cleveland, though,
failed to hold leads of 17-7 and 20-10 as the Bengals’ Mike Nugent hit a 26-
yard game-winning field with 38 ticks left.

That came after Cleveland’s Phil Dawson missed a 55-yard attempt at the other
end following a bad snap. He had already hit a season-long 54-yarder earlier
in the game, but long snapper Ryan Pontbriand’s toss back to the holder was
low.

Pontbriand fell on the sword Tuesday, getting released.

“We didn’t finish it off,” said Browns head coach Pat Shurmur. “The Bengals
did a good job of coming back on us. Just like if we had won the game it’d be
a team victory, we lost the game and it was a team loss.”

Cleveland has lost four of its last five games and does not have an easy road
to the end of its season. Four of its final five tests are against AFC North
co-leaders Baltimore and Pittsburgh, including a meeting at the Ravens on Dec.
24.

The Ravens, meanwhile, have won two in a row despite playing both games
without linebacker Ray Lewis, whom Harbaugh said has a chance of returning for
this game.

Baltimore, which has won seven of its last eight versus AFC North opponents,
can reach 9-3 for the second time in team history with a victory over
Cleveland, joining the 2006 club.

SERIES HISTORY

The Ravens own a commanding 17-7 lead in their all-time series with the
Browns, whose first edition of the franchise moved to Baltimore to become the
Ravens prior to the 1996 season before re-entering the NFL as an expansion
team in 1999, and have won each of the last six bouts between the rivals.
Baltimore recorded its third straight home-and-home sweep of the Browns by
following up a 24-17 home victory during Week 3 of the 2010 season with a 20-10
triumph in Cleveland last December, and also left Ohio with wins in both 2008
(37-27) and 2009 (16-0). The Browns last bested the Ravens via a 33-30 overtime
decision at M&T Bank Stadium on Nov. 18, 2007 and topped Baltimore at home by a
27-13 count that same year as well.

Harbaugh is 6-0 lifetime against the Browns as a head coach, while Shurmur
will be facing both the Ravens and Harbaugh in his current position. The two
sideline bosses previously worked together on the staff of the Philadelphia
Eagles from 1999-2007, with Shurmur then the team’s quarterback coach and
Harbaugh the special teams coordinator and later in charge of defensive backs.

WHEN THE RAVENS HAVE THE BALL

Thanks to a solid defensive effort, the Ravens were able to defeat the 49ers
despite just 253 total yards by the offense. Baltimore, which ranks 17th
overall in total offense but seventh in points per game with 24.7, did not turn
the ball over to lend its defense a hand, however. Flacco (2737 passing yards,
13 TD, 8 INT) only threw for 161 yards and was not sacked, while hitting Pitta
(27 receptions) for his first touchdown reception. The Browns will need to keep
an eye on No. 1 wide receiver Anquan Boldin (48 receptions, 3 TD), who led the
Ravens with four receptions and 63 yards last week. Boldin hauled in eight
passes for 142 yards and three touchdowns in a meeting with Cleveland last
year and needs only two more catches for 700 in his career. Emerging rookie
wideout Torrey Smith (31 receptions, 5 TD) added two catches versus San
Francisco. Running back Ray Rice (722 rushing yards, 54 receptions, 10 total
TD) was held to just 59 yards rushing on 21 carries by the 49ers as the Ravens
totaled just 92 yards on the ground overall. Rice can also make plays in the
passing game, and he caught three balls last week. The fourth-year pro rushed
for 154 yards in a Nov. 2, 2008 meeting with the Browns, while Flacco is 6-0
against Cleveland in his career with 1,238 passing yards, eight touchdown
throws and a 101.9 passer rating.

The Browns and their top-ranked pass defense will be without linebacker Scott
Fujita (51 tackles, 1 INT), who is now on injured reserve after breaking his
hand against the Bengals. He had started 10 of Cleveland’s first 11 games.
Cleveland’s pass rush generated a pair of sacks last weekend, including one
from rookie lineman Jabaal Sheard (35 tackles, 4.5 sacks). He also had four
tackles and a forced fumble, while backup linebacker Titus Brown also got to
the quarterback. Middle linebacker D’Qwell Jackson (100 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1
INT) led the Browns with nine tackles, and both safety Mike Adams (35 tackles,
2 INT) and tackle Ahtyba Rubin (53 tackles, 3 sacks) had six. Standout corner
Joe Haden (44 tackles, 1 sack) figures to have the job of shutting down Boldin,
with teammate Sheldon Brown (32 tackles, 1 INT) matching up on the secondary
receivers. Rookie tackle Phil Taylor (42 tackles, 4 sacks) and safety T.J. Ward
(39 tackles, 1 sack), who hopes to return from a foot injury this week, are
also key for a Cleveland unit that is allowing 19.6 points per game, ninth-best
in the league.

WHEN THE BROWNS HAVE THE BALL

Cleveland has had trouble moving the ball this season, ranking 28th in total
offense (295.9 ypg), though its struggling ground game has racked up 282 yards
in the last two weeks. That includes 134 versus the Bengals, led by Peyton
Hillis’ 65 on 19 carries. Hillis (276 rushing yards, 2 TD) led the team in
carries after missing the previous five games with a hamstring issue.
Quarterback Colt McCoy (2332 passing yards, 13 TD, 8 INT) added 38 rushing
yards while throwing for 151 yards on 16-of-34 passing. He was sacked twice and
picked off once in the game, but did complete touchdown passes to wide
receivers Jordan Norwood (15 receptions) and rookie Greg Little (47
receptions). Both hauled in the first NFL touchdown passes of their career.
Little leads all rookies in receptions this season, adding five to that total
on Sunday, while Norwood led the Browns with 69 yards on four catches and
scored Cleveland’s initial first-quarter touchdown of the season. Tight end
Benjamin Watson (32 receptions, 2 TD) finished with two catches in the loss and
wideout Mohamed Massaquoi (20 receptions, 2 TD) failed to make a catch on three
targets. Playmaker Joshua Cribbs (29 receptions) leads the Browns with four
touchdowns.

The Ravens defense came up with a dominating effort on Thanksgiving, matching
the club record of nine sacks in a game first set in 1997 and matched in 2006.
Rush specialist Terrell Suggs (49 tackles, 9 sacks, 2 INT) led the way with
three sacks and forced a fumble, while Baltimore’s front three also got in the
act. Defensive end Cory Redding (27 tackles, 3.5 sacks) notched 2 1/2 sacks,
while tackle Haloti Ngata (46 tackles, 5 sacks) got to the quarterback twice.
Redding also finished with five tackles, while safety Bernard Pollard (53
tackles, 2 sacks), linebacker Jameel McClain (56 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT) led
the Ravens with eight each. Baltimore, which has an NFL-high 38 sacks on the
year, would love to see Lewis (68 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 INT) return for this
game given his history with the Browns. His seven sacks against them are the
most he has against any one team, and he has also picked off four passes
versus Cleveland. Safety Ed Reed (39 tackles, 1 sack, 3 INT) has 10
interceptions in his career when facing Cleveland, returning three of them for
scores. Lardarius Webb (55 tackles, 1 sack, 4 INT) and Cary Williams (54
tackles) start at corner for the Ravens.

KEYS TO THE GAME

The Ravens need to finish strong to clinch the division and home-field
advantage, something the club has done historically well. Since 2008, they are
10-4 in December/January and are averaging 152.6 yards per game on the ground
over that span. They are also allowing an NFL-low 82.2 rushing yards per game
since 2008, and both of those phases should trouble the Browns.

Also troubling for Cleveland is seeing Suggs on the field. While Lewis and
Reed have given the franchise fits, it is Suggs who has been the biggest
handful. His 12 sacks versus Cleveland are the most he has against any one
club and he has three multi-sack games against the franchise. Shurmur will
have to be very aware of where Suggs is on the field at all times.

If the Browns can keep it close, Dawson may give them the advantage. The
veteran kicker has a strong leg and can shorten the field for Cleveland’s
offense in terms of getting points, and he has already hit on seven field goals
from 50 yards or more this year. That is tied for third-most all-time in a
single season, and he has converted on 83.6 percent of his field goal kicks
since Cleveland Browns Stadium opened in 1999. Opponents are connecting at a
78.4 percent rate during that span.

OVERALL ANALYSIS

The Ravens and Browns are both certainly aware of Baltimore’s issues following
big wins this season, and that should help to get overmatched Cleveland up for
this game. Trends are trends for a reason, but the Ravens do have some factors
working in their favor in addition to just being the better team. Having not
played since Thanksgiving, they come in very rested and have a weapon in Rice
who can expose Cleveland’s run defense. A slow start would surely cause him
unrest on the Ravens’ sideline, but this is one matchup the team won’t give
away.

CLEVELAND – Because they played on Thanksgiving, the Baltimore
Ravens enjoyed a long holiday weekend and got to rest last
Sunday.

They can’t afford to take another one off.

Baltimore’s three losses this season have followed the same
pattern. All of them have come on the road, all of them have come
against a weaker opponent and all of them have come the week after
an impressive win.

So don’t think for a second that a trip to Cleveland has the
Ravens (8-3) feeling overconfident. They know the Browns (4-7) are
always ready to brawl.

“If you were a fighter, this is the fighter you avoid at all
costs because he is always going to fight you hard, and he is
always going to fight you for the 12 rounds,” Ravens defensive end
Terrell Suggs said. “If you look at just the matchups between the
two teams in the past, they have always brought it against us. They
have always had a special thing to play us.

“They are going to bring it. Our work is cut out for us.”

Tied atop the AFC North with Pittsburgh, the Ravens can’t afford
any letdown against the Browns, who despite losing four of their
past five games and falling back to their familiar spot at the
bottom of the division, have the NFL’s top-ranked pass defense and
are showing signs of improvement.

Cleveland doesn’t have playoff hopes, but nothing would ease the
pain more than beating the Ravens, who have already shown a
tendency to ease up against lesser teams.

Baltimore opened the season by blowing out Pittsburgh 35-7, and
followed it with a loss in Week 2 at Tennessee. After thrashing
Houston on Oct. 16, the Ravens were shocked in a Monday night game
the next week by Jacksonville. Then, after Baltimore completed a
season sweep by winning at Pittsburgh, the Ravens were beaten at
Seattle the following week.

Coach John Harbaugh is confident his team knows better than to
take anyone lightly. They’ve lived the “any given Sunday” – or
Monday – cliché this season.

“Our guys, even in the games we haven’t played well and lost on
the road, I don’t believe we had an emotional letdown,” he said.
“We just have to play well. Every single team in this league is
really good and I think the Browns are exceptionally good – much
better than their record would indicate. We’ve always had tough
games against them. Our guys understand the Browns, they understand
the division rivalry and they understand what they’re getting into,
so I don’t think there’s any possibility of any kind of emotional
letdown.

“We respect everybody and we really respect the Browns.”

Baltimore may again be without linebacker Ray Lewis, the heart,
soul and conscience of the Ravens’ nasty defense. Lewis missed
practice this week with a toe injury that has kept him out of the
previous two games. If Lewis can’t play, Jameel McClain will fill
in for the third week in a row.

McClain had eight tackles in Baltimore’s recent win over San
Francisco, but he’s not about to call himself Lewis’
replacement.

“Nobody can be Ray Lewis’ replacement,” he said. “Ray Lewis is
someone phenomenal.”

But just because Lewis could be out, that doesn’t make things
any easier for Cleveland. Browns coach Pat Shurmur must design a
game plan that accounts for all of the Ravens’ defensive stars.

“You’ll go into the game knowing this is a certain guy you need
to block, this is a certain guy that you don’t want to wreck the
game,” he said. “The challenge for them is they’ve got about three
or four of them up front.”

For the Browns to pull an upset, they’ll need to be able to run
the ball and stay out of obvious passing situations. It’s on those
2nd- and 3rd-and-long plays when the Ravens turn their pass rush
loose with Suggs and Co. playing a diabolical game of “meet me at
the quarterback.”

Baltimore leads the league with 38 sacks, including nine to tie
a franchise record in the Ravens’ 16-6 win over the 49ers on
Thanksgiving.

Browns quarterback Colt McCoy expects to be under pressure from
the first snap until the last. He’s counting on Cleveland’s line to
protect his back, front, side and whatever other direction the
Ravens might be flying at him from.

“You have to trust your guys,” said McCoy, who threw three
interceptions last season in his first matchup with Baltimore. “You
have to trust your running backs. You have to trust your offensive
line to pick up the protection and you have to trust your guys to
get open. That’s how it is week to week. This week they are really
good up front. They’ve pressured more than anybody we’ve seen.
We’ve got a lot on our plate, a lot to handle, but we’re excited
about the challenge.”

Peyton Hillis may be the one who can help the Browns most.

After missing five straight games with a hamstring injury,
Hillis came back and gained 65 yards last week in a loss to
Cincinnati. Hillis ran hard and with purpose, a positive sign
that’s he’s trying to finish strong after being hurt and becoming a
distraction this season.

Hillis had a breakout performance the first time he played
Baltimore last year. He gashed the Ravens for 144 yards, the most
by a back against their defense since 2005. However, the second
time he faced them, Hillis, playing with broken ribs, gained just
35 yards.

“They’re a good defense,” Hillis said. “They’re big up front,
their front seven is great and you really have to prepare well for
‘em if you’re going to run the ball on ‘em.”

The Ravens are expecting the Browns to feed them a heaping
portion of Hillis.

“He’s a really aggressive runner,” Suggs said. “Everybody knows
he is Peyton Hillis; he has the Madden cover. He likes to have good
games against good defenses. I expect for the juggernaut to be up
in there and try to run down some walls.”

CLEVELAND – Because they played on Thanksgiving, the Baltimore Ravens enjoyed a long holiday weekend and got to rest last Sunday.

They can’t afford to take another one off.

Baltimore’s three losses this season have followed the same pattern. All of them have come on the road, all of them have come against a weaker opponent and all of them have come the week after an impressive win.

So don’t think for a second that a trip to Cleveland has the Ravens (8-3) feeling overconfident. They know the Browns (4-7) are always ready to brawl.

“If you were a fighter, this is the fighter you avoid at all costs because he is always going to fight you hard, and he is always going to fight you for the 12 rounds,” Ravens defensive end Terrell Suggs said. “If you look at just the matchups between the two teams in the past, they have always brought it against us. They have always had a special thing to play us.

“They are going to bring it. Our work is cut out for us.”

Tied atop the AFC North with Pittsburgh, the Ravens can’t afford any letdown against the Browns, who despite losing four of their past five games and falling back to their familiar spot at the bottom of the division, have the NFL’s top-ranked pass defence and are showing signs of improvement.

Cleveland doesn’t have playoff hopes, but nothing would ease the pain more than beating the Ravens, who have already shown a tendency to ease up against lesser teams.

Baltimore opened the season by blowing out Pittsburgh 35-7, and followed it with a loss in Week 2 at Tennessee. After thrashing Houston on Oct. 16, the Ravens were shocked in a Monday night game the next week by Jacksonville. Then, after Baltimore completed a season sweep by winning at Pittsburgh, the Ravens were beaten at Seattle the following week.

Coach John Harbaugh is confident his team knows better than to take anyone lightly. They’ve lived the “any given Sunday” — or Monday — cliché this season.

“Our guys, even in the games we haven’t played well and lost on the road, I don’t believe we had an emotional letdown,” he said. “We just have to play well. Every single team in this league is really good and I think the Browns are exceptionally good — much better than their record would indicate. We’ve always had tough games against them. Our guys understand the Browns, they understand the division rivalry and they understand what they’re getting into, so I don’t think there’s any possibility of any kind of emotional letdown.

“We respect everybody and we really respect the Browns.”

Baltimore may again be without linebacker Ray Lewis, the heart, soul and conscience of the Ravens’ nasty defence. Lewis missed practice this week with a toe injury that has kept him out of the previous two games. If Lewis can’t play, Jameel McClain will fill in for the third week in a row.

McClain had eight tackles in Baltimore’s recent win over San Francisco, but he’s not about to call himself Lewis’ replacement.

“Nobody can be Ray Lewis’ replacement,” he said. “Ray Lewis is someone phenomenal.”

But just because Lewis could be out, that doesn’t make things any easier for Cleveland. Browns coach Pat Shurmur must design a game plan that accounts for all of the Ravens’ defensive stars.

“You’ll go into the game knowing this is a certain guy you need to block, this is a certain guy that you don’t want to wreck the game,” he said. “The challenge for them is they’ve got about three or four of them up front.”
